Pastor Jen, as she is known, is a pastoral counselor. She integrates principles from her Clinical Mental Health degree with scripture, working with clients experiencing distress from atypical neurological phenomena, marital-family stressors, career transition, spiritual crisis, and growth plateaus. Pastor jen helps pastoral counseling clients find strategies, human and educational resources for emotional regulation, improved executive function, growth, and navigation of relationships that engender joyful well-being. Cumberbatch collaborates with diagnosticians, psychiatrists, community resources, and physicians to provide more comprehensive support to her clients.
Jennifer is the owner of Cumberbatch’s Sweet Tater Tortes and JR Cumberbatch Productions. The latest production adventure was writing, directing, producing, and performing drama and music as a collaborator for "If These Walls Could Talk," an interactive exhibit, featuring the art of Ginger Geyer at Austin's antebellum mansion, the Neill-Cochran House at 2310 San Gabriel, which has the only former slave and workplace still standing in Austin. This project began in 2018 with Cumberbatch’s extensive research on the interconnections between the house, Austin history, and Black enslaved peoples. Cumberbatch consulted with numerous scholars, interns, descendants of former slaves, founders of Austin’s Freedman Communities, Black faith leaders, event planners, development, advertising, tech-media-film, and music experts on this important project. She curated programming from January to November 2020. Three thousand people, live and virtual, engaged in the rich contributions of Black enslaved people to the history and founding of Austin, Texas, and the historic intersection between Black and White life in Austin. An artifact of the project is her film “The House That Slaves Built,” which honors the enslaved artisans who built the house and the five enslaved people who were sold to finance its construction.
Cumberbatch and her husband of 45 years, Ashton, are blessed with four children: a son, who is a writer, graphic designer, and editorial copy stylist, a daughter, the founder of the creative activism platform, Rosa Rebellion, and former director of the Office of Community Engagement for the University of Texas Austin; a younger son, recently deceased and a daughter, an elementary school teacher who owns a decorative cake business, Sweetniz.
